instructor
Lula
is introduced in the first episode of Red Garden ("Sayonara,
Shoujo-tachi") and appears in a similar manner at the conclusion of the
first manga chapter. She is never stated to have a surname and does not have
a specific given age. Japanese fans of the show often refer to Lula as ôki
kuchibiru or big lips. We learn that she works as a funeral
director in episode three ("Hontou no Watashi") alongside JC (who
is also her partner in more sinister dealings.) However, she also spends much
of her time on Roosevelt Island as per instruction.
Lula is an Animus (reanimated being) like the heroines, having died at an unknown point in the past. She acts as their instructor, teaching them about the requirements and limitations associated with their new (undead) lives. She is also their primary contact amongst the Animus clan, liaising between the girls and the clan elders at various points during the series.
Lula appears to be a fairly sullen woman, possessing of two distinct demeanors. Generally she is cold and aloof, often speaking curtly and derisively toward the heroines. When she is alone with JC however, we see that she can also be quite warm and playful. Lula dismisses the heroines as childish on numerous occasions. She also longs for a conclusion to the clan war between Animus and Doral, even though the prospect of memory loss or death terrifies her.
Lula usually appears at midnight to observe the heroines as they hunt.
